Spirit Rock Meditation Center is dedicated to the teachings of the Buddha as presented in the vipassana tradition. The practice of mindful awareness, called Insight or Vipassana Meditation, is at the heart of all the activities at Spirit Rock. The Center hosts a full program of ongoing classes, daylong programs, and residential retreats.

The purpose of San Francisco Zen Center is to make accessible and embody the wisdom and compassion of the Buddha as expressed in the Soto Zen tradition established by Dogen Zenji in 13th-century Japan and conveyed to us by Suzuki Roshi and other Buddhist teachers. Our practice flows from the insight that all beings are Buddha, and that sitting in meditation is itself the realization of Buddha nature, or enlightenment.

Tassajara Zen Mountain Center is a Zen Buddhist community established by San Francisco Zen Center in 1966. From April through September, Tassajara is open to guests and offers a variety of work-study programs, workshops and retreats. For the rest of the year it is closed to the public so that students of Zen can engage in traditional monastic training periods.

Our effort at Green Gulch is to awaken in ourselves and the many people who come here the bodhisattva spirit, the spirit of kindness and realistic helpfulness. This is how we offer our understanding of Buddha's Way. In addition to the temple program of zen and study, Green Gulch includes an organic farm and garden, as well as a guest house and conference center.
